On 9 April 2020 new amendments to the Fair Work Act came into effect. These permit the issue of JobKeeper directions in some circumstances. These directions give employers substantial scope to vary working conditions in light of the COVID-19 pandemic.

The Fair Work Commission has power to consider these directions. On 27 April 2020 the staff of the Commission has issued a new Benchbook which provides a great summary.
