Ireland

Two University of Galway Law students, Fahima Mohamed and Stuthi Biyani, have been awarded the RDJ Diversity and Inclusion Scholarships. The scholarships were presented by Marion Meehan, Senior Associate at RDJ, and Professor Martin Hogg, Dean of the University of Galway School of Law.

Each student receives a €5,000 bursary along with a work placement opportunity at RDJ.

The RDJ Diversity and Inclusion Scholarship supports students from ethnic minority backgrounds and those under-represented in the Irish legal profession. Fahima and Stuthi were selected following a competitive process involving academic results and an essay on the importance of diversifying the legal profession in Ireland.

The scholarships were formally presented at the University of Galway on Tuesday, 13 January.

Commending the RDJ Diversity Scholars on their achievement, Marion Meehan, said:

“I am delighted to meet this year’s RDJ Diversity Scholarship recipients, Fahima and Stuthi. They are two outstanding students with bright careers ahead of them”.

She added, “This scholarship reflects RDJ’s ongoing commitment to building a workplace that reflects the diversity of our clients and the communities we serve. Diverse teams strengthen our firm by broadening our perspective, deepening our understanding and improving the quality of the outcomes we deliver”.

Professor Martin Hogg also commended the initiative, noting:

RDJ’s continued support of this scholarship is sincerely appreciated by the School of Law. The two worthy recipients, Fahima and Stuthi, will benefit greatly from it, receiving transformative support and encouragement to pursue legal careers in an increasingly diverse legal profession.”
