NEW YORK, NY (November 14, 2005) — McDermott Will & Emery is further enhancing its 175+ lawyer Intellectual Property, Media & Technology Department with the addition of a New York-based intellectual property litigation group, led by Dennis Mondolino. Mr. Mondolino and his group, including five partners, one counsel and a dozen associates and paraprofessionals, will add significantly to the Firm’s intellectual property litigation practice.

As head of the group, Mr. Mondolino was formerly a named partner at the New York IP boutique, Hopgood, Calimafde, Judlowe and Mondolino, and most recently practiced at Morgan Lewis. The partners in the group include Lisa Ferri, Michael Hurley, Jason Lief and Richard Pettus. This group brings to McDermott an integrated team that has successfully litigated scores of patent and other IP disputes in a wide array of technologies and industries including pharmaceutical, chemical, biotechnology, computer, electronics, and consumer and industrial products.

Mr. Mondolino focuses primarily on patent and complex trade secret litigation, including substantial experience in pharmaceutical Hatch-Waxman litigations. He is an experienced trial and appellate lawyer with more than 20 years of experience, who has participated in more than 100 patent disputes and has acted as lead trial counsel in approximately two dozen patent-related cases with a commensurate number of arguments before the Federal Circuit Court of Appeals.

Dennis Mondolino has more than 20 years of experience in patent and complex trade secret litigation. He represents clients in a variety of industries including pharmaceutical, personal health care, specialty chemicals and engineering materials, industrial machinery and products, agribusiness, home and industrial building products and computer hardware. He also counsels clients on an array of intellectual property matters. He has participated in more 100 patent disputes and has tried approximately two dozen patent-related cases with a similar amount of arguments before the Federal Circuit Court of Appeals.
Lisa Ferri focuses on patent and other complex intellectual property litigation, including trademark, unfair competition and misappropriation of trade secrets in a variety of technologies and industries including pharmaceutical (Hatch-Waxman), consumer products, electronics, computer software, financial services, entertainment and e-commerce. Over the past 15 years, she has successfully represented clients at trials, arbitrations, U.S. Patent and Trademark Office inter partes proceedings, and before a number of appellate courts including the Federal Circuit. Ms. Ferri also counsels clients on IP matters such as licensing, non-disclosures, technology transfers and a variety of e-commerce issues.
Michael Hurley focuses on intellectual property litigation with a particular emphasis on patent litigation in a number of technical disciplines, including biomedical devices, pharmaceutical, chemical, applied mechanics, electrical, and computer hardware and software. He has also litigated cases concerning IP licenses and inventors' rights, as well as actions involving antitrust, unfair competition, contract and fraud. He has represented clients at the trial court level in both jury and non-jury suits and has defended numerous appeals in the United States circuit courts. He also has substantial experience counseling clients on the resolution of complex disputes.
Jason Lief focuses on patent and intellectual property litigation and counseling. He has worked extensively on pharmaceutical (including numerous Hatch-Waxman Act litigations) and biotechnology patent cases, as well as matters involving consumer and cosmetic products. He has addressed issues ranging from patent infringement, validity and enforceability, trade dress infringement, constitutional questions regarding federal court jurisdiction in patent matters involving issues rooted in the subtleties of organic chemistry and biotechnology.
Richard Pettus focuses on the litigation and licensing of patent and trade secret matters. He also counsels clients on IP management and other proprietary technology related issues, including strategies for due diligence and pre-litigation investigations. He has represented clients in all phases of the litigation and trial of numerous actions involving a wide range of technologies in the pharmaceutical, computer, biomedical and consumer products industries. Prior to practicing law, Mr. Pettus held engineering positions at Ebasco/ Raytheon (Nuclear Power Systems Division), IBM (T.J. Watson Advanced Silicon Technologies Laboratory) and Allied-Signal (Aerospace Division).

Esther Steinhauer focuses on intellectual property litigation, specifically patent litigation. She also has experience in patent prosecution and patent interferences and has worked on foreign patent office opposition proceedings. Ms. Steinhauer received her J.D. cum laude from Pace University School of Law; a Ph.D. in virology from the University of Glasgow, Scotland; a M.A. from Princeton University and a B.S. with honors from McGill University, Canada.
Associates
Philip Canelli focuses his practice on intellectual property litigation, licensing, Internet law and products liability. He clerked for the New York State Attorney General's Office, as well as for Judge Jack B. Weinstein from 1998-1999. Mr. Canelli received his law degree, with honors, from Brooklyn Law School while also studying computer science at Columbia University. He received his bachelor's degree from Villanova University.
Kenneth Crowell, who will join the Firm on January 1, 2006, focuses primarily on intellectual property, with a particular emphasis on patent litigation. He received his law degree from Rutgers University School of Law, where he graduated Order of the Coif. Mr. Crowell received his master’s and bachelor’s degrees from the New Jersey Institute of Technology, and his bachelor’s degree from Allegheny College.
Robert Greenfeld focuses on patent litigation, specifically electrical and telecommunications technology, computer systems, and internet and business methods. In addition to his litigation practice, he has experience in patent portfolio analysis, patent prosecution, interference work, client counseling and licensing. Prior to practicing law, Mr. Greenfeld was an electrical engineer at AT&T Bell Laboratories. After graduating from law school, he served as a law clerk to Judge Roger B. Andewelt of the U.S. Court of Federal Claims in Washington, D.C. He earned his J.D. cum laude from New York University School of Law; a M.S.E. from the University of Pennsylvania, and a S.B. from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology.
Richard Mills-Robertson focuses primarily on intellectual property litigation. He earned a J.D. from Cornell Law School where he was an Olin Law and Economics scholar and he earned a B.A. in chemistry and economics from Franklin & Marshall College.
Charles Minkoff, Ph.D. focuses primarily on patent litigation. His litigation experience includes pharmaceutical, computer, and electronics technologies. In addition, he has experience with molecular biological, biochemical and biotechnology issues. He earned his J.D. from Benjamin N. Cardozo School of Law, a Ph.D. from Duke University, and his B.A. from the University of Vermont.
Brian Nolan focuses on intellectual property litigation. He has been involved in several patent litigations involving various technologies, including pharmaceutical, medical assays, consumer products and construction materials. Mr. Nolan received his law degree from Fordham University School of Law, and received his bachelor's degree from Lehigh University.
Christine Pepe focuses on intellectual property, including patents, copyrights and trademarks. She also has experience in licensing and contract matters. She earned her law degree from Boston University School of Law, and received her B.S. cum laude in biology and philosophy from Boston College.
Peter Schuyler focuses on intellectual property litigation, including patents, copyrights and trademarks, and has experience in licensing and contract matters. Mr. Schuyler received his law degree from Fordham University School of Law. Prior to law school, he was a senior engineer for the General Dynamics Corporation, Electric Boat Division. He earned his B.S. in mechanical engineering from Polytechnic University.
Pamela White focuses on intellectual property litigation with a particular emphasis on patent litigation. Ms. White received her law degree, magna cum laude, from Brooklyn Law School, and her bachelor's degree from Lafayette College.
