Toronto (June 16, 2025) – Borden Ladner Gervais LLP (BLG) is pleased to appoint Hélène Deschamps Marquis as Artificial Intelligence (AI) Practice Leader, reinforcing its commitment to de-risking AI in its client files across all industries.

AI is transforming the way organizations do business and serve their customers on a daily basis. Business leaders in all spheres of activity are therefore under increasing pressure to manage the ethical, regulatory and operational risks associated with this technology. Among the many challenges they will face are internal oversight and governance, compliance with industry standards and local regulations, labour and employment issues associated with AI, building AI-related trade agreements, funding AI initiatives, and managing all the overlaps between everyday technology and ongoing developments in AI. for example, generative AI.

A seasoned and world-renowned executive, Hélène has decades of experience advising pan-Canadian and international organizations on technology risk management, including critical transactions such as mergers and acquisitions. She contributes to innovation in the legal community, particularly in the areas of digital law and technology, privacy and ethics in artificial intelligence. In her new role as AI Practice Leader, she will leverage her multi-sector vision to guide the firm in all of its key AI decisions.

"AI has quickly become ubiquitous in the Canadian business community. Its increasing integration exposes our clients to an endless list of risks and opportunities, which require careful assessment and careful legal guidance. Under Hélène's leadership, we build multidisciplinary teams of leading practitioners in Corporate, Mergers & Acquisitions, Product Liability, Litigation, Intellectual Property, Financial Services, FinTech, Privacy, Cyber Security and Regulatory Law to provide our clients with a real-world perspective, global and innovative AI policy," said David Di Paolo, the firm's next national managing partner and CEO.

Hélène's role as AI Practice Leader is in addition to her current role as National Co-Lead, Privacy & Cyber Security within BLG's Cybersecurity, Privacy & Data Protection Group.
