This summer, Chris Somerville spoke on a panel hosted by the Conduct, Compliance & Legal Advisory Section (CCLS) Education Sub-Committee of Canada's new securities regulator, the Canadian Investment Regulatory Organization (CIRO). The seminar – "Welcome to the CIRO: A discussion on CIRO Annual Priorities and Enforcement Trends" – introduced attendees to CIRO's leadership team, in a discussion with Chris from Affleck Greene McMurtry LLP and Ron Schwass from Wildeboer Dellelce LLP. CIRO announced its new name earlier this year following the merger of the Investment Industry Regulatory Organization of Canada (IIROC) and the Mutual Fund Dealers Association (MFDA). The CCLS Education Sub-Committee recently resumed in-person events and is preparing to resume its annual conference this year on November 30.
