Christopher LaVigne, members of Shearman & Sterling's
Sports Group, recently contributed a chapter titled
"Conducting an Effective Sports Investigation" to Inside
the Minds—Understanding Sports Law published by Thomson
Reuters/Aspatore. The chapter examines the unique set of challenges
that sports organizations face when conducting internal
investigations into allegations of wrongdoing and the public
release of their findings. The authors highlight some of these
challenges and considerations and draw comparisons to internal
investigations outside of the sports industry, concluding with
"best practices" for the sports lawyer.
