Such inquiries into salary history are now off-limits during the interview process in New York as part of wider efforts to bridge the gender pay gap. Local Law No. 67 changes the New York City Human Rights Law to prevent prospective employers from making inquiries into salary history and using such information to decide the applicant's salary, benefits or other compensation. In passing the legislation, New York joins a growing number of U.S. cities and states that have enacted similar laws intended to address the gender pay gap.
