LONDON - 18 April, 1997:

The resounding success of SHOREX 96, the world's first offshore finance exhibition organised in London last year, will be followed this year by two events on the same theme:

  • SHOREX SUMMER 97 in Monaco (10-12 June 1997) and;
  • SHOREX 97 in London (2-4 December 1997).

These two exhibitions on offshore better known in some countries as "tax havens" or "fiscal paradises" are sponsored by The International Herald Tribune.

SHOREX SUMMER 97 will cover the developments and opportunities that arise from operating in offshore jurisdictions. Exhibitors will present examples of operating structures for private end-users and corporate use. Exhibitors at SHOREX SUMMER 97 will be companies specialising in offshore company formation and management, trustees, law firms, private banks and portfolio managers. The international business press will cover the event with special reports.

ADVANCED OFFSHORE, is the conference running alongside the exhibition, in which an international panel of prominent speakers from the offshore industry will address and analyse the latest trends and key issues within the industry such as: Alternative Structures to the Trusts, Management of Offshore Structures, Due Diligence and Bank Secrecy.

The offshore financial world does not cease to attract the interest of all types of international investor and remains a source of polemic and controversy. Although the industry is a steadily growing market, it is still largely misunderstood. The raison d'etre of SHOREX is precisely to facilitate the communication between offshore professionals, all levels of intermediaries and end-users.

Philippe Gelin, Managing Director of Shorex Ltd. and founder of the exhibition comments: "We have now established a real forum from where professionals in the offshore industry can openly market their services." Philippe Gelin adds: "For the private investor and the intermediary alike, SHOREX is the place where one can, in confidence, meet offshore specialists and therefore reduce one's fiscal exposure." Philippe Gelin concludes by addressing one of the fundamental questions of today's financial equilibrium debate: "Why have we now reached the point where more then half of the world's wealth is controlled offshore?... because only offshore vehicles give investors and entrepreneurs the three key growth dynamics:-flexibility, simplicity and limited fiscal pressure."

Mr Christopher Poll, Chairman of Micropal, summarises: "The offshore industry is currently undergoing fundamental change from being a tax-induced haven for non-declared capital to being the platform from which to launch products to regulated markets."
