Houston, Tex. (April 12, 2024) - On April 11, Lewis Brisbois, the U.S. Commercial Service and the Houston District Export Council jointly hosted a webinar titled "Two Years In: Where Are We Now in the Business & Legal Landscape of the Russia-Ukraine Conflict?"

U.S. Commercial Service Regional Director Erin Butler and Senior International Trade Specialist Peter Tartaris and Director of the International Trade Administration's Office of Russia, Ukraine, & Eurasia Matthew Edwards contributed to a lively discussion regarding the complex issues facing businesses due to the imposition of trade restrictions on Russia amid its now two-year-old conflict with Ukraine, alongside speakers from various U.S. Lewis Brisbois offices, including Ukraine Conflict Response Practice Chair Andrew Pidgirsky, Jane Luxton, Justin Carl Pfeiffer, Thomas A. Brooks, Michael Gnesin, Rafael Zahralddin, and Anastasiya Menshikova.

The speakers covered a wide range of topics, including U.S.-Russia sanctions and export restrictions; seizures and forfeitures of Russian oligarchs assets worldwide; legal and practical considerations for the insurance industry; compliance and enforcement challenges for U.S. financial institutions with economic sanctions; restrictions on foreigners' U.S. investments; contract defenses and forum selection issues for lawsuits; and the oil price cap related to U.S. sanctions.
