Shearman & Sterling celebrated International Women's Day with a program focused on building inclusion through increasing leadership opportunities and economic empowerment. The event was held at the firm's New York office.

The gathering, entitled "Inspiring Inclusion: A Path to Gender Equality," featured panel discussions on creating and sustaining more inclusive, equitable and diverse networks.

Gillian Emmett Moldowan, the firm's Global Governance & Advisory Practice Group Leader and a partner in the Compensation, Governance & ERISA practice led a panel discussion on "Inclusion through Leadership." Gillian was joined by Jane Morril, Head of Enterprise Legal and Chief Operating Officer at Morgan Stanley, and KKR partner Alisa Amarosa Wood in an examination of the realities and myths of the gender gap and its impact on leadership roles.

Geline Midouin, the firm's Executive Director & Chief Operations Officer, moderated a discussion around "Inclusion through Economic Empowerment." Joining Geline were TPG partner and Chief Operating Officer Anilu Vazquez-Ubarri, and Citi Global Wealth General Counsel Akiko Yamahara in a talk about how women can become empowered to seek economic and positional growth in the workplace.

International Women's Day, March 8, is a global day celebrating the social, economic, cultural and political achievements of women. The day also marks a call to action for accelerating women's equality. IWD has occurred for well over a century, with the first IWD gathering taking place in 1911.
