National Wage Council Guidelines 2010/2011
The National Wage Council ("NWC") is a tripartite body comprising representatives from employers, trade unions and Government. The NWC develops a national consensus on wage and wage-related matters and issues guidelines on these matters every year. The guidelines are used for wage negotiation by unionised and non-unionised companies in Singapore. The guidelines for the period from 1 July 2010 to 30 June 2011 were released on 25 May 2010. In summary, the guidelines recommend that companies:-
- grant sustainable wage increases to their employees, taking into account the company's performance and prospects;
- share productivity gains with their employees in the form of productivity incentives and bonuses; and
- help vulnerable segments of the workforce by implementing re-employment for older workers and encouraging more women to join the workforce. A copy of the Guidelines can be obtained from: www.mom.gov.sg/newsroom/Pages/PressReleasesDetail.aspx?listid=310.
