On 13 August 2015, the Parliamentary Finance and Administration Committee (the Committee) held a public hearing in which various unions, self-insurers, employers and solicitors were provided with an opportunity to make short verbal statements in support of their written submissions. The Committee asked the stakeholders various questions on different aspects of the proposed amendments in order to further understand their respective positions.
Copies of the written submissions provided to the Committee have been published on the Queensland Parliament website.
The stakeholders were divided in their views, with unions and solicitors being in support of the proposed amendments, and employers and self-insurers being opposed to the amendments.
Due to time constraints, the Committee was not able to canvass all the areas they wished to discuss with the various stakeholders, and indicated that further questions would be delivered to the stakeholders in writing.
The Committee is due to deliver its report on Friday, 4 September 2015.
