Morrison & Foerster is pleased to announce that Boston Technology Transactions and Life Sciences Transactions + Licensing partner Matthew Karlyn has been recognized by Massachusetts Lawyers Weekly as a 2020 Excellence in the Law honoree. Mr. Karlyn was recognized in the Pro Bono category for leading the firm's efforts with Survivor Corps, a New York-based nonprofit organization dedicated to connecting and mobilizing survivors of COVID-19 with the medical, scientific, and academic research communities to help stem the tide of the pandemic and assist with the national recovery.

Mr. Karlyn's pro bono efforts included helping Survivor Corps founder and COVID-19 survivor Diana Berrent transform her idea, and the grassroots movement that ensued, into a nonprofit organization with a network that now includes 165,000 members and has evolved into one of the most active and robust COVID-19 data sets and research tools in the world. In addition, with the support of a broader team, Morrison & Foerster advises Survivor Corps on a number of commercial, privacy, regulatory, tax, and intellectual property matters.

"I am honored to be recognized by Massachusetts Lawyers Weekly as an Excellence in Law honoree, but most importantly, I am proud of the work MoFo is doing to support Survivor Corps in its critical mission to stem the impact of COVID-19 and help in the nation's recovery against this devastating global health crisis," said Mr. Karlyn.

Each year through its Excellence in the Law event, Massachusetts Lawyers Weekly celebrates excellence throughout the legal community, honoring individuals in a number of categories, including Excellence in Firm Administration/Operations, Alternative Dispute Resolution, Marketing, Paralegal Work, and Pro Bono, as well as honoring Up & Coming Lawyers.
