PITTSBURGH  – May 10, 2021 – Buchanan Ingersoll & Rooney is proud to share a number of initiatives for employees and community members to commemorate Asian American & Pacific Islander Heritage Month (AAPI). This month, many of the programs the firm has planned also offer educational takeaways for participants as we all search for ways to stand in solidarity with the Asian community.

  1. For employees, Buchanan is hosting its very own "Top Chef: Buchanan." We are welcoming Chef Michael Chow from Sang Kee to teach attendees how to make Asian cuisine. Chef Chow will have assistance in the kitchen from Buchanan's CEO & managing director, Joe Dougherty and co-chair of the Labor & employment section, Joe Centeno.
  2. The firm has proudly joined the Alliance for Asian American Justice. Through this newly formed Alliance, we will help victims overcome legal access and other barriers that hinder them from obtaining legal assistance when they've been the subject of hate crimes. We will take on pro bono cases to fight for justice in the Asian American community.
  3. On May 27th, the firm is welcoming A.B. Cruz III, President of the National Asian Pacific American Bar Association (NAPABA) and John Yang, President and Executive Director of Asian Americans Advancing Justice (AAJC) for a conversation with Joe Centeno, moderated by Lloyd Freeman, chief diversity & inclusion officer. The group will share their personal stories, discuss ways NAPABA and AAJC are bringing awareness to the issue and offer insight on how we can all work together to #StopTheHate against Asian Americans. More information can be found here. CLE credits are available.
  4. In furtherance of our commitment to embracing the diversity of all people and condemning injustice, we are proud to share that our firm is donating $5,000 to Asian Americans Advancing Justice | AAJC. This organization is on the front lines fighting for civil rights and empowering Asian Americans to create a more just America for all.
