Release Date: 14 October 1998

What is the best way to set up and manage offshore structures? How can they be made tax efficient? What is asset protection? How can you achieve it? And what can the offshore financial industry - the world's number one financial industry worth $5 trillion, and still growing - offer to the investor?

To answer these questions, and more, SHOREX '98 will be holding a major three-day exhibition and conference in London, from 20-22 October. Shorex provides the world's leading offshore professionals and investors with an unrivalled opportunity to tap into a vital source of information on the offshore industry and to examine the challenges facing it today.

The latest trends in what is becoming an increasingly competitive environment will come under the microscope at the conference, IFSC '98. Key professional and management issues in the industry such as tax planning and asset protection will be addressed by leading figures from the offshore financial world.

New offshore financial vehicles, asset protection trusts, hedge funds, onshore countries used as offshore jurisdictions and emerging markets are among a number of topics which will be addressed by the conference speakers.

The SHOREX '98 exhibition has become an important money show for the finance centre industry. It is aimed at financial intermediaries, offshore professionals, high net worth individuals, expatriates, institutional investors, decision-makers from the Fortune 500 companies and emerging markets entrepreneurs and will provide answers to questions on offshore issues. The exhibitors will, for example, be explaining real-life operating structures face to face with the 4,000-5,000 visitors expected to attend (based on last year's figures).

There will be approximately 80 exhibitors from 50 countries consisting of international finance centres, private banks, trust companies, law and accountancy firms, fund managers and financial publishers. These include companies such as Alliance & Leicester International, Bankers Trust, Bank Austria, Standard & Poor's Micropal, Western Union, and Lloyd's of London.

This three-day event, which is back for a fourth time, follows on from the success of SHOREX '97 in London and SHOREX Summer 97 held in Monaco. Philippe Gelin, managing director and founder of Shorex Ltd, the event organiser, said: "We have now established a real forum in which professionals in the offshore industry can openly market their services. For the private investor and the intermediary, SHOREX is the place where one can, in confidence, meet offshore specialists and find ways of optimising fiscal management. Why have we now reached the point where more than half of the world's wealth is controlled offshore? ... Because only offshore vehicles give investors and entrepreneurs the three key growth dynamics: flexibility, simplicity and tax efficiency."

The exhibition and conference is sponsored by The International Herald Tribune, The Daily Telegraph, Stephenson Harwood.
