Turkey has recently put in to affect some legislative changes on The Law on Foreign and International Protection.
What is the change:
The Law on Foreign and International Protection, law numbered 6548, has been put in effect. The changes are:
- Work permits will also serve as residence permits. In other words, a foreigner who obtains a work permit shall automatically receive a residence permit. The residence permit will be valid until the expiry date of the work permit.
- The residence permit process, which is currently executed by the local Security Directorate, will be undertaken by the recently established Ministry of Interior Directorate General of Migration Management during 2015.
- It is now a legal obligation to have full health insurance covering at least the period of the residence permit during the residence permit application process.
- Students can now work for a period not exceeding 24 hours a week upon receiving a valid work permit
Special legal requirements that are applicablefor specific foreign investments and other employers shall still continue.
