LONDON (September 10, 2019) – Morrison & Foerster, a leading global law firm, is pleased to announce that Chiraag Shah has joined the firm's London office as a partner in its Litigation Department and will build the international arbitration offering in London. Mr. Shah brings to the firm extensive experience in international arbitration. His experience, including in English law, complements Morrison & Foerster's premier international arbitration offering in Asia.

Mr. Shah is the fourth partner to join Morrison & Foerster's London office since the start of 2019, following the additions of Private Equity Real Estate (PERE) partners Oliver s'Jacob and Luke Mines, and Finance partner Chris Kandel. He is also the third Litigation partner to join the firm's European offices this year, following in the footsteps of Roland Steinmeyer and Patrick Späth, who are based in Berlin.

"We have been focused on bolstering our arbitration offering in London. I'm delighted that, with Chiraag's arrival, we have added significant depth to our international arbitration capabilities to complement our outstanding disputes, white collar and investigations practices," said Paul Friedman, Morrison & Foerster's managing partner for Europe. "London is a key hub for international arbitration, especially disputes arising in EMEA, and Chiraag's experience is a perfect match as we seek to further expand our arbitration offering. His joining us also further builds our momentum in London after establishing a PERE practice and further strengthening our Finance practice earlier this year."

Mr. Shah's practice focuses on cross-border commercial and investor-state arbitrations. He also has substantial experience conducting commercial litigation matters before the English courts and advising clients on white collar, fraud, and corruption issues. Further, Mr. Shah, who is dual qualified in Kenya and England & Wales, has represented clients — including a significant number based in the Middle East — in numerous disputes and investigations in Africa, spanning Egypt, Ghana, Nigeria, Kenya, Tanzania, Zambia, and South Africa, among other countries.

Mr. Shah's recent notable matters include representing a Middle Eastern entity in a Singapore International Arbitration Centre arbitration relating to a joint venture project involving a telecoms investment in Myanmar; an Israeli listed company in an International Centre for Dispute Resolution arbitration against a global distributor of medical devices regarding the distribution of high dependency units in the U.S.; a Hong Kong-based investment and brokerage firm in an International Chamber of Commerce arbitration relating to post-acquisition indemnity claims arising out of the acquisition of a brokerage business; and a consortium of bondholders in relation to investor-state claims arising out of the nationalization of a European bank.

"I am excited to join Morrison & Foerster's globally renowned Litigation practice in London, and to work closely with colleagues in Asia to further enhance the firm's international arbitration capabilities," said Mr. Shah. "I am also pleased to join a dynamic office, which has seen so much growth in recent years."

Mr. Shah holds an LL.B. (Law) from the London School of Economics and Political Science (LSE), as well as a Diploma in Law from the Kenya School of Law.
