The Ukrainian government is preparing to privatise 15 regional energy distributors, or oblenergos.

On 29 July 2009, the Cabinet of Ministers of Ukraine resolved to transfer shares in each of the 15 oblenergos from the state-owned National Energy Company of Ukraine to the State Property Fund in preparation for selling the shares via auction.

The timing, starting prices and tender conditions for the auctions have yet to be established, however, the acting Head of the State Property Fund of Ukraine has stated that if all the necessary steps are undertaken in timely manner, the first auction may be announced as soon as September 2009.
