Maltese prime minister Joseph Muscat and Fijian prime minister Voreqe Bainimarama discussed co-operation between the two countries in the area of renewable energy. The two prime ministers met in order to discuss various issues that can benefit the people of both countries.

According to Mr Muscat, Malta would be pleased to look into the possibility of investing in renewable energy efforts carried out by Fiji. It was agreed that the permanent missions of Fiji and Malta at the United Nations would exchange information in order for Fiji's renewable energy initiative to be discussed in further detail during Mr Bainimarama's visit to Malta. The talks also covered the international community's approach to the Climate Change Summit in Paris taking place in Paris later this year.

Mr Bainimarama requested the Maltese Government's support of Fiji's efforts at safeguarding the Sustainable Development Goal 14 and the Oceans Goal, through the Triennial UN Conferences on Oceans and Seas initiative, as well as Malta's support of Fiji's candidate for the presidency of the 71st UN General Assembly, Peter Thomson.

Prime Minister Bainimarama also confirmed his attendance to this year's Commonwealth Heads of Government Meeting that will take place in Malta this November. Prime Minister Muscat welcomed this news.
