Maltese economy minister Chris Cardona praised the improved relations between Malta and Turkey during a state visit to Izmir, Turkey. While in Turkey, minister Cardona met with Ekrem Demirtaş, chairman of the Izmir Chamber of Commerce as well as Ender Yorganciler from the Aegean Region Chamber of Industry during separate meetings.

During the meeting with Demirtaş, Cardona discussed the possibility of having a Maltese student being awarded a scholarship to study at the Izmir University of Economics. In addition, Cardona also spoke about a visit to Turkey where a Maltese trade delegation made up of Maltese entrepreneurs and representatives from Malta Enterprise, Trade Malta, The Chamber of Commerce, FinanceMalta, Transport Malta and the newly formed Malta Turkish Business Council will soon be going up.

Cardona also invited the Izmir Chamber as well as all its members to visit Malta in order to explore potential commercial and investment opportunities in the island.
