On 14 September 2012, MTR Corporation signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) with the Foshan Municipal Government to study the feasibility of co-operation for the Guangzhou-Foshan Intercity Loop Line (Foshan West Station to Guangzhou South Station Section), otherwise referred to as the "Guangzhou-Foshan Line".

On 14 September 2012, MTR Corporation signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) with the Foshan Municipal Government to study the feasibility of co-operation for the Guangzhou-Foshan Intercity Loop Line (Foshan West Station to Guangzhou South Station Section), otherwise referred to as the "Guangzhou-Foshan Line".

Under the MOU, the four signatories will discuss opportunities of co-operation for the Guangzhou-Foshan Line which may include its investment, construction and operations. The discussion will also cover development opportunities at Zhangcha, Chencun and Beijiao.

Upon completion, passengers will be able to interchange from the Guangzhou-Foshan Line to the Guangzhou-Shenzhen-Hong Kong Express Rail Link at Guangzhou South Railway Station.
