Czech News - Nov 96 - The Czech / Slovak Customs Union

Czech Republic International Law
The Customs Union Council which was held in Prague in November did not come to to any agreement in any of the important areas. The questions regarding the acceptance of certificates of origin were discussed, as well as import quotas of specific commodities (e.g. potatoes, wine spirit, margarine, non-alcoholic drinks, cigarettes, beer).

According to Vladimir Dlouhy, the Minister of Trade, the Slovak Government is increasingly protecting the Slovak internal market. Ongoing issues will be discussed during the next meeting of the Customs Union Council which is scheduled for mid-December.
