Shearman & Sterling attorneys acted as the founding lead editors and contributors to key chapters in the latest Global Legal Insights edition entitled, AI, Machine Learning & Big Data, a book published by Global Legal Group Ltd, London. The publication covers the important considerations, legal issues and market practices in 31 global jurisdictions around artificial intelligence with respect to how it intersects with the laws of each country.

Serving as a framework for understanding AI from a legal perspective, the guide is intended to contribute to the ongoing discussions around the world as it relates to the role of AI in civil society and the manner in which the law will rise to the new challenges presented by the technology.

"Given the rapid advancement of artificial intelligence within the financial services landscape, various legal challenges have also been on the rise," said Vivek Dhayagude, Chief Technology Officer at SkyBridge Capital. "This publication offers key insights into the multi-dimensional implications of the technology and the legal framework in which it operates, helping to open up the dialogue for those directly confronted with these challenges."

Partners Matt Berkowitz (Menlo Park-Litigation) and Joshua Thompson (New York-Finance) were the founding lead editors and contributing authors of the introductory chapter, "A Framework for Understanding Artificial Intelligence."

Partners Alan Bickerstaff (Austin-Emerging Growth), Mallory Brennan (New York-Litigation) and Emma Maconick (Menlo Park-Intellectual Property Transactions) authored the "Considerations in Venture Capital and M&A Transactions in the AI mobility Industry" chapter.

Partners Nathan Greene (New York-Investment Funds), David Higbee (Washington, D.C.-Antitrust) and associate Brett Schlossberg (Menlo Park-Intellectual Property Transactions) authored the U.S. chapter.
