As a result of inappropriate comments being posted about Kate Middleton, the Duchess of Cambridge, and Meghan Markle, the Duchess of Sussex, the Queen has rolled out social media guidelines applicable to posts on the social media platforms run by The Royal Family, Clarence House, and Kensington Palace.

In order to create a "safe environment," the guidelines say that users must show "courtesy, kindness and respect  for all other members of our social media communities."

Specifically, any posts on the Royal Family's social media channels must not:

  • Contain spam, be defamatory of any person, deceive others, be obsecen, offensive, threating, abusive, hateful, inflammatory or promote sexually explicit material or violence.
  • Promote discrimination based on race, sex, religion, disability, sexual orientation or age.
  • Breach any of the terms of any of the social media platforms themselves.
  • Be off-topic, irrelevant or unintelligible.
  • Contain any advertising or promote any services

The guidelines also provide that posts in violations of the guidelines may be deleted and users may be blocked.
