A partial federal government shutdown, which President Trump has suggested could occur over a battle for funding to pay for and build a wall along the border of Mexico, would have wide ranging effects on businesses and government employees. According to Michael P. MacHarg, a Partner who focuses on labor relations and employment litigation, a shutdown could stop payments to employees of federal contractors. Mr. MacHarg spoke to the Society for Human Resource Management about the effects of a government shutdown, and his comments are included in the article "Government Shutdown Would Affect Many Businesses," published Dec. 17, 2018. Mr. MacHarg also addressed best practices for federal contractor employers during a shutdown.
