The California State Attorney General's office announced that it will be holding six rulemaking workshops for the California Consumer Privacy Act of 2018 ("CCPA").

The workshop dates and locations are:

  • January 8 – San Francisco
  • January 14 – San Marcos
  • January 24 – Riverside
  • January 25 – Los Angeles
  • February 5 – Sacramento
  • February 13 – Fresno

The CCPA goes into effect on January 1, 2020, and requires the Attorney General to issue regulations implementing the law by July 1, 2020. You can read our overview of the CCPA on our blog. As we have explained, some of the most impactful provisions of the CCPA are unclear and open to various interpretations, such as the meaning of "selling" personal information or "curing" a breach. We expect the Attorney General's regulations to clarify these provisions, and for these provisions to be featured prominently in the workshops.

The Attorney General's office is holding the workshops in advance of the formal rulemaking process as "an initial opportunity for the public to participate in the CCPA rulemaking process." The workshops are open to the public, and registration is now open.
