Barbara D. Underwood was sworn in as Acting Attorney General of New York. Her appointment comes on the heels of the resignation of Eric Schneiderman.

Ms. Underwood served as the New York Solicitor General since January 2017. Before then, she was Counsel and Chief Assistant to the U.S. Attorney for the Eastern District of New York, and Acting Solicitor General and Principal Deputy Solicitor General of the United States. She previously worked within the Queens, Brooklyn and Manhattan District Attorneys' Offices.

She will be the first woman to serve as Acting Attorney General of New York.
