In a breaking story that is sure to stoke the debate regarding collegiate athletics and money, the United States Attorney for the Southern District of New York announced that charges have been brought against assistant coaches at four prominent college basketball programs as well as the director of sports marketing at Adidas. The criminal complaints allege "numerous instances" of bribes paid to assistant college coaches in exchange for steering college athletes to financial advisors, business managers and others once the athlete turned pro. The complaints also allege that money was funneled to high school athletes in exchange for the athletes committing to schools and attending Adidas sponsored events. According to the New York FBI office, the investigation is ongoing and further charges may be forthcoming. A link to an article about the cases may be found here, and the complaints can be found here.
