In October, a large medical center in Southern California agreed to settle its claims with HHS for $2.1 million following a breach of patient information. The claims arose out of the medical center's public posting of protected health information of more than 30,000 patients. This settlement follows a California state court's approval of a $39 million settlement of consumer claims in March.
