The SEC requested comments on FINRA-proposed amendments to Rule 12400 that would permit an attorney arbitrator to be eligible for the chairperson arbitrator role if that attorney had completed chairperson training and served as an arbitrator through award on at least one SRO arbitration in which hearings were held. These amendments are the direct result of the arbitration caseload, which increased by 20% in 2016, and the shortage of public chairpersons. The solicitation of comments was published in the Federal Register.

Comments on the proposed amendments must be submitted by September 27, 2016.
