Over the past several years, according to Mary Jean, there has been a tremendous growth in physician-owned organizations that contract with health care entities other than medical practices, many of them arguably nothing more than a mechanism by which the owner-physicians can capture a share of revenue derived from their orders or referrals to the contracted entity.
