The SEC adopted amendments to its rules of practice to (i) adjust the timing of hearings in administrative proceedings, (ii) allow for discovery depositions, (iii) clarify the rules for admitting hearsay and the assertion of affirmative defenses, and (iv) make certain other related amendments.

These amendments are intended to introduce additional flexibility into administrative proceedings while continuing to provide for timely and efficient resolution of the proceedings.

The adopted amendments will become effective 60 days following their publication in the Federal Register, and will apply to all proceedings initiated on or after that date.
