Against the backdrop of two cases that arose from the 2009 grand jury investigation of Jerry Sandusky, convicted pederast and former defensive coordinator for the Pennsylvania State football program, Bill explained that a considerable amount of time and resources (public, private and judicial) can be expended due to the confusion arising when an attorney as counsel to the university represented an employee facing potential criminal charges in an alien procedural venue. When in unfamiliar waters, attorneys need to take the time to determine the depth of their involvement before proceeding.
