On June 14, 2016, the governor of Alaska signed into law HB234, which requires health insurers that
offer a health care insurance plan that provides mental health
benefits to also provide coverage for mental health benefits
provided through telehealth. Under the bill, a health insurer may
not require that prior in-person contact occur between a health
care provider and a patient before payment is made for covered
services. The law takes effect on September 11, 2016.
