On December 15, 2015, the EU Parliament and the Council agreed to terms on the EU Data Protection reform. This reform consists of two instruments: the General Data Protection Regulation ("GDPR") to "enable people to better control their data" and the Data Protection Directive for "the police and criminal justice sector." The Commission also published questions and answers on December 21, 2015, to highlight the key changes instituted by the reform. For further discussion on the GDPR, see the Jones Day Alert.
