On January 15, the Department of Transportation
("DOT"), the National Highway Traffic Safety
Administration, and 17 automakers agreed on a set of proactive safety principles for
improving vehicle safety and the safety of U.S. roadway users. The
Statement of Principles includes a commitment from DOT and
automakers to work collaboratively to improve road safety by
mitigating automotive cyber threats and enhancing analysis of early
warning reporting data collected by motor vehicle and motor vehicle
equipment manufacturers.
