SEC Seeks Exemption From Warrant Requirement In Email Privacy Bill

At a December 1, 2015, hearing before the House Judiciary Committee,
the SEC advocated for a warrant exemption carve-out in the Email Privacy Act. The proposal provides an
update to the 1986 Electronic Communications Privacy Act, which
allows the government to use a subpoena, rather than a warrant, to
obtain from internet companies electronic communications more than
180 days old.
