As expected, on January 8, 2016, President Obama vetoed legislation that would have repealed key provisions of the Affordable Care Act (ACA), including insurance subsidy and mandate provisions, Medicaid expansion, tax provisions, and the transitional reinsurance program. The bill, H.R. 3762, the "Restoring Americans' Healthcare Freedom Reconciliation Act," was approved by the House of Representatives on a largely party-line vote on January 6, 2016. In vetoing the bill, the President stated his concerns that the bill would result in those with employer-based insurance being at risk of losing or paying more for health coverage, and he objected to a provision defunding the Prevention and Public Health Fund.
