The New Jersey State Senate approved eight new judges for the busiest and largest trial court in the state on Thursday, in an effort to fill 15 current judicial vacancies.

Kenneth Rosenberg, a partner at Fox Rothschild, explains that the approval of eight new judges will relieve some of the pressure on the court, which has relied on loaned judges from other vicinages, retired judges on recall and the expanded use of municipal court judges to fill in the gaps while it waited for reinforcements.

"Although these appointments will not fill all of the outstanding vacancies, and thus will not completely resolve the ongoing issues related to an overworked and undermanned bench, the Essex County Bar Association and our members are extremely appreciative of our Governor's and State Senators' efforts," Rosenberg told Law360 after the vote.
