Michael Kline and Elizabeth Litten were quoted in the DataGuidance Daily News Report article "New York: State Comptroller audits cancer institute on HIPAA compliance."  Full text can be found in the July 15, 2015, issue, but a synopsis is below.

The New York Office of the Comptroller published a report of its audit of the security of digital health data on July 6, 2015.  The Comptroller identified administrative, physical and technical areas in which security could be improved.

"The Comptroller has authority to conduct investigations on organisations it funds," Elizabeth Litten and Michael Kline told DataGuidance. "We do not know the reasons that triggered the audit but it may well serve a pre-emptive purpose. With health organisations notifying of data breaches almost on a daily basis, it may well be that the Comptroller identifies data privacy as a risk area and wants to make sure the Institute is compliant."
