House Republican leaders said they hope to bring a bill repealing the estate tax (H.R. 1105) to the House floor for a vote the week of April 13.

The bill was approved by the House Ways and Committee on March 26 on a 22‒10 party-line vote. It would permanently repeal the estate, gift and generation-skipping transfer taxes. Republicans have enough votes to pass the bill in the House with ease, but the bill has no chance of being enacted with President Obama in the White House.

The timing of the vote allows Republicans to highlight a popular tax priority when the public is focused on taxes because of the April 15 individual filing deadline.
