William Maruca was quoted in the Medical Practice Compliance Alert article "Open Payments Proposals Mean More for Practices to Track." While the full text can be found in the July 21, 2014, issue of Medical Practice Compliance Alert, a synopsis is noted below.

The proposed 2015 Medicare physician fee schedule would require medical supply and device manufacturers to report the brand name associated with the payments they make to physicians. Currently, the open payments program requires only the manufacturers of covered drugs and biologicals to disclose the market name of products related to payments.

To be safe, ask your physicians to self-disclose payments for all CME presentations, suggests Maruca.

For you to be able to view your physicians' data, they must register in the CMS' Enterprise Portal and Open Payments system.

Having the information at your fingertips will ensure you meet that deadline, Maruca says.
