New Jersey officials expect significant growth in the need for lawyers to represent human trafficking survivors following the state's passage of an exemplary law to help fight trafficking.
Assistant Attorney General Tracy Thompson recently joined the head of a survivors group to help train more than two dozen attorneys who were interested in serving as pro bono lawyers to victims of sex or labor trafficking.
Elizabeth Hampton and about seven other Fox Rothschild attorneys were among those present at the training session, with Hampton noting that more Fox lawyers had signed up after a colleague had been moved by hearing a survivor speak.
"We heard that the attorney general was putting together a task force and looking for attorneys to assist," Hampton said. "We asked, 'how can we help?'"
"For children and victims who are not protected and have nowhere to go, we can help be their voice, and be there to help with whatever their needs are," she said.
