Christina A. Stoneburner and Richard B. Cohen were quoted in the Corporate Counsel article, "6 Top Priority Items for the EEOC." Full text can be found in the June 6, 2014, issue, but a synopsis is noted below.

According to Christina Stoneburner, the Equal Employment Opportunity Commission (EEOC) is dedicating trial resources to six national priorities:

  1. Eliminating recruitment and hiring barriers
  2. Protecting vulnerable workers
  3. Emerging and developing issues
  4. Equal pay law
  5. Access to justice
  6. Preventing systematic harassment

Stoneburner says "steering," or guiding minority applicants to lower-paying jobs or ones with less growth potential, will be a primary area of the EEOC's focus.

The EEOC will also look to protect vulnerable workers, including migrant workers and workers in isolated areas, says Richard Cohen.

As for preventing systematic harassment, Stoneburner notes, "these are 'class' and multiple plaintiff cases and are going to be the expensive ones for employers to defend."
