While there are no specific laws dealing with bullying, more than 20 states have reviewed various bills aimed at banning workplace bullying, Shayna wrote. Even though state and federal law do not prohibit bullying among co-workers, employers should have a clear understanding of how bullying can adversely affect their business.

Left unmanaged, employees may file claims related to bullying by attempting to classify the complaints as violations under existing anti-harassment laws, she explained.
