Scott L. Vernick was quoted in the CBS Philly article, "Free App by Phila. Law Firm Informs Businesses of Rights, Duties in Data Breach." Full text can be found in the January 11, 2014, article, but a synopsis is noted below.

Fox Rothschild has introduced Data Breach 411, an iPhone app designed to help companies navigate through the varying state rules and regulations regarding breaches.

"We are obviously in a very challenging environment," said Scott Vernick, a noted privacy attorney who was instrumental in the development of the app. "Every day it seems there's a new headline that talks about some kind of data breach or privacy breach."

But Vernick cautions that it's not always the businesses caught sleeping on the job.

"Cyber criminals are extremely inventive and creative and sort of always one step ahead," he said.

"So what we wanted to do was put at their fingertips sort of a one-stop-shop resource," Vernick said of the idea behind the app. "It enables clients in a quick way to get a handle on exactly what are their duties to notify consumers under the various statutes in some 46 states."
