Partner Rob Evans (New York-Capital Markets) is the author and editor of the inaugural column in "Ethics Corner," a new feature in the American Bar Association's Business Law Today. The series will "present topics that occasionally confront lawyers, principally business lawyers, involving the ethics rules."

In the column, Evans presents a hypothetical in which a banker client informs his lawyer that he is going to meet with the executives of a company to discuss going public. The client asks the lawyer to participate in the meeting. Evans discusses the ethical questions raised by this scenario, including whether it is appropriate for the lawyer to participate, given the "no contact" rule, and, if so, what steps he would need to take in advance.
