ARABSAT ES'HAILSAT PARTNERSHIP

On August 19, Arab Satellite Communications Organization (Arabsat) and Es'hailSat, the Qatar Satellite Company (Es'hailSat) announced a strategic partnership whereby Es'hailSat will acquire 500 MHz of Ku-band spectrum at the 26°E orbital position from Arabsat, marking another significant step in Es'hailSat's program to deploy a fleet of satellites to provide DTH and other services in the MENA region, including for anchor customer Al Jazeera. The newly acquired frequency rights will be used by Es'hailSat's planned Es'hail 2 satellite, which will supplement the recently launched Es'hail 1 satellite.

$105M EX-IM BANK LOAN FOR SPACECOM

On August 23, the Export-Import Bank of the United States authorized a $105.4m direct loan to Space-Communication Ltd. to finance its procurement of launch services provided by Space Exploration Technologies Corp., solar arrays manufactured by ATK Space Systems Inc. and insurance brokered by Marsh USA Inc. for the AMOS-6 satellite, currently being manufactured by Israel Aerospace Industries Ltd., with a communications payload supplied by MacDonald Dettwiler and Associates Ltd. AMOS-6 will replace AMOS-2 at 4°W in 2015, from where it will provide coverage of Africa, the Middle East and Europe.

SINGTEL STRATEGIC REVIEW OF OPTUS

On August 12, Singapore Telecommunications Ltd. (SingTel) announced that, following a strategic review, it has decided to retain Optus Satellite (Optus), which SingTel had earlier sought to sell for more than $1.8b. Optus operates five in-orbit satellites and has one satellite, Optus 10, under manufacture and scheduled for launch in 2014.

2013 SUMMIT FOR SATELLITE FINANCING

AUGUST LAUNCH SERVICES

August 29 – Arianespace S.A. successfully launched the EUTELSAT 25B/Es'hail 1 and GSAT-7 satellites on an Ariane 5 launch vehicle. EUTELSAT 25B/Es'hail 1, the product of a partnership between Eutelsat S.A. and Es'hailSat and the first satellite of Es'hailSat's planned fleet, is manufactured by Space Systems/Loral, LLC based on its SSL 1300 platform and will provide DTHand telecommunications services to the Middle East, North Africa and Central Asia from 25.5°E. GSAT-7, built by the Indian Space Research Organisation based on the I-2K platform, will be positioned at 74°E and provide UHF and S-, C- and Ku-band services for the Indian subcontinent and surrounding waters.

August 31 – International Launch Services Inc. successfully launched the AMOS-4 satellite for Space-Communication Ltd. on a Zenit 3SLB launch vehicle. Manufactured by Israel Aerospace Industries Ltd. based on the AMOS 4000 platform, AMOS-4 is equipped with Ka- and Ku-band transponders and will provide DTH, VSAT and broadband services to Russia and the Middle East from 65°E.

AUGUST SATELLITE ORDERS

August 1 – EADS Astrium was selected by Telesat Canada to manufacture a satellite based on the Eurostar E3000 platformto replace Telstar 12. Scheduled for launch in late 2015, the satellite will operate at 15°W and serve the Americas, the EMEA region and European, North Atlantic and Caribbean maritime zones.

Telecomunicações Brasileiras S.A. August 13 – The Brazilian government announced, through Visiona Tecnologica Espacial S.A., a joint venture between and Embraer S.A., that it has selected to manufacture the Geostationary Defense and Strategic Communications, or SGDC, satellite, to be equipped with Ka- and X-band transponders. Scheduled for launch in early 2016, SGDC will be positioned at Thales Alenia Space 75°W.

August 15 – Space Systems/Loral, LLC was selected by Star One S.A. to manufacture the Star One D1 satellite. Based on the SSL 1300 platform, Star One D1 will include C-, Ka- and Ku-band transponders and provide telecommunications, television and broadband services to users across Latin America from 84°W following its scheduled launch in 2016.
