With the tragedy at the building collapse at 22nd and Market Street in Philadelphia, a lot of questions have been raised and a lot of families have lost loved ones.
Unfortunately, there is more sadness. Ronald Wagenhoffer, the city inspector who examined the building that collapsed on June 5th onto the Salvation Army thrift shop committed suicide on June 12, 2013.
Mr. Wagenhoffer was foundin his truck due to an apparent self-inflicted gunshot wound. According to NBC10 and Philly.com - Mr. Wagenhoffer blamed himself for the collapse and stated that he should have "looked at those guys working, and I didn't".
Mr. Wagenhoffer inspected the site in February and an adjacent building in the middle of May.
Despite Mr. Wagenhoffer's grief, city officials are adamant that he did nothing wrong. According to philly.com, Everett Gillison, Mayor Nutter's chief of staff stated "I will state right here, right and now, this man did nothing wrong," "The department did what it was supposed to do under the code that existed at the time, and we are proud of the department and its employees - period."
