The IRS has announced administrative relief both for victims of severe April storms in the South and Midwest, and for taxpayers affected by the explosions at the Boston Marathon.

IR-2013-43 provides that taxpayers affected by the explosion have until July 15, 2013, to file their 2012 returns and pay any taxes normally due April 15. The relief is available for all taxpayers in Suffolk County, Mass. Affected taxpayers living outside of Suffolk County can call 1-866-562-5227 starting Tuesday, April 23, to identify themselves as eligible for relief.

IR-2013-42 provides penalty relief for taxpayers affected by storms that hit the South and Midwest before the April 15 filing deadline. Taxpayers directly affected by these storms will qualify for penalty relief based on reasonable cause if, because of the storm, they are unable to file their returns or pay tax due until after the filing deadline.
